Inform your guests of your cocktail wedding by adding a line on your wedding invitations, such as "Cocktail reception to follow ceremony." This lets your guests know not to expect a full meal. The timing of your ceremony and reception is also a determining factor in what guests expect. Cocktail weddings typically start between 6 and 7:30 p.m. so guests can eat dinner before the wedding. They usually last between two and three hours.
2Choose a venue and entertainment, such as a live band, quartet or DJ, that makes it easy for guests to walk around and mingle. Museums, art galleries or outdoor locations that offer interesting views or conversation starters are ideal, if such options fit in with your wedding style and personal taste.

8Give your guests favors that complement your cocktail wedding. Gel candles shaped like martinis, glassware, cocktail mixes or wine stoppers are some ideas. Print your wedding details on cocktail napkins for a simple but personal touch.
