DIY Plate Holders

DIY Plate Holders

Used silverware can be repurposed into a variety of handmade crafts. An old fork can be bent to create a decorative plate holder. If bent properly, a normal sized dinner fork will hold the weight of a small china plate, but you can complete this project with an oversized serving fork for a sturdier plate holder suited for larger plates. Vintage forks can be found easily at most thrift stores and online.

Instructions

    1

Wash the fork and polish it with silver polish if it is dirty or scuffed.

    2

Bend the outer tines of the fork forward using pliers. Bend the tines until they run perpendicular to the fork handle.

    3

Bend the inner tines toward the back until they are perpendicular to the handle.

    4

Balance the fork on a flat surface. If it is not sturdy standing on its own, you may need to bend the tines slightly upward or downward.

    5

Bend the tips of the outer tines upward to keep the plate from shifting off of the holder. You can curl the outer tips up slightly or make elaborate spirals.
