Furniture Ideas for a Media Room

Furniture Ideas for a Media Room

The "man cave" is a cushy spot where men can retreat in order to drink beer and watch TV. Its important to find the appropriate furniture that will not only support the equipment in the media room, but also be comfortable and pleasing to the eye. Does this Spark an idea?

A Big Screen

The true theater experience starts with a big screen. Six feet wide is typically a good size, with 10 feet being about the maximum, as you would need to sit approximately 15 feet from the screen to be able to see correctly. Do your research before buying your TV. You want good quality with great pixelation.

Surround Sound

For theater-like sound, with dialogue, music and sound effects emanating from certain speakers, you will need a 5.1 system. This means five full-range speakers and one subwoofer. For more sound, you can opt for the 6.1 or 7.1 systems.

Theater-Style Recliners

Choose the best seat in the house with theater-style recliners fully outfitted with cup holders. If you want your man cave to be seriously cool, choose recliners with massage and vibration systems, as well as speakers. Be careful not to get chairs that are too big because that will cause problems when trying to get in and out of the room and the chairs. Although many people want to choose leather recliners, microfiber will be just as good and will create less glare in the media room.

TV Stand

Choose one that works for your TV. If you have a wide TV, get a stand that will accommodate its width and weight. Otherwise opt for mounting the TV on the wall or creating a shelf that can accommodate the TV. It can be a good idea to get a TV stand that can also hold DVDs and CDs.

CD and DVD Library Shelves

Having shelves for placing CD and DVDs will help increase the storage space inside your media room. This clutter-free environment makes organizing and searching for movies and music easier when you spend time in the media room, as well as making it more pleasurable to spend time in there. The shelves save time and effort in your media room.

Mini-Fridge

What good is a media room if you can't stay there for hours at a time? Choose a small refrigerator that will easily fit into a corner of your media room. Stock it with beer, bottled water, juice and any snacks that need refrigerating and you would want to eat while watching movies.

Flooring and Window Treatments

Flooring and window treatments are important aspects of a media room. Carpet will provide comfort and intimacy, as well as soften acoustics. Blinds or under-shades should be placed on the windows with a block-out lining in order to block out sunlight and darken the room for a better experience when watching movies.
