How to Mount a TV Stand

Mounting a TV stand has become a basic household project that almost everyone can perform. The type of mount you need depends on the size of your TV. Be sure the wall is sturdy enough to hold the weight; ordinary drywall will not suffice.

Decide exactly where you want to assemble the mount. For ideal viewing, the center line of the TV should be at eye level. Find the proper height by sitting where you normally would to watch TV.

Find the studs in the wall. If you don't have a stud finder, knock on the wall in different areas until you don't hear a hollow sound. That is a spot where a stud was placed.

Using a pencil, mark the spot on the wall where you want to assemble the mount. Make sure the marks are on a stud and are level.

Drill holes where the mount will be and insert heavy-gauge screws.

Attach the mount to the screws. Check one more time to make sure the mount is level.

Connect all cables to the back of the TV. Some mounts won't allow enough space to plug in cables once the TV is hung.

Hang the TV on the mount. Get assistance from another person if your TV is large or heavy.
