The widescreen video format is the new standard format for TVs. Many existing TV cabinets are not designed for widescreen TVs. To remedy this you can build an inexpensive cabinet yourself. The cabinet will not only be customized for your TV, but building it yourself can give you a measure of pride and self satisfaction. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
- 1
Write down the measurements of the TV. You need the height, length and depth of the TV. The owner's manual will have these dimensions. If you do not have the manual, measure the TV with a tape measure.
2Measure how tall you want the TV to stand off the ground. If you have a high-sitting couch, then you will want the stand to sit fairly high. If your couch sits low off the ground, then you'll want the couch to sit low. Determine how high you want your TV dimension to be, relative to the height of the TV.
3Cut two pieces of plywood for the width, height and depth of the TV with the table saw.
4Create a box by gluing the height and depth pieces together with wood glue. Nail the edges together with nails and a hammer. Glue one of the pieces of wood cut for the length on top of the box. Once the glue dries, nail the corners into the box.
5Cut two more pieces. One for the depth and one for the height.
6Nail the pieces on the top of the box.
7Place the last piece of wood cut for the length on top of the pieces you just nailed down and glue it into position. After the glue dries, nail all four corners down.
8Move the cabinet outside or in a large garage.
9Coat the cabinet with paint or wood stain using the paint brush. Paint even strokes using medium speed and pressure. Do not miss any spots.
10Dry the cabinet for a few hours.
