Decorating for an elegant dinner party or event can become quite expensive if you were to purchase all your items. Create beautiful homemade candlestick holders by using recycled items that were destined for the trash. Ribbon spools, standing on end, have a wonderful shape for displaying candles. Ribbon and trim spools come in a wide variety of heights and several will create a lovely candlelight table-scape for a dining table or buffet. By using items you have for decorating, you can focus your time and money on the menu.
Instructions
- 1
Stand a ribbon spool on end. Apply hot glue to the bottom of a wood candle cup. Center the candle cup on the top end of the ribbon spool. Allow glue to cool.
2Spray paint the entire spool and candle cup, using gold, brown or a color that coordinates with your event. Allow paint to dry.
3Apply hot glue to the spindle center of the spool, on all sides. Attach one-inch tufts of Spanish moss or natural excelsior to the spindle center, until it is covered. Apply hot glue to the top of the spool, around the candle cup, and apply Spanish moss or excelsior in the same way.
4Pop the silk flower heads off the stems and cut berry sprigs to two-inch lengths, using wire cutters. Apply hot glue to the back of the flower heads, the ends of the berry stems and one side of the nuts or pine cones. Attach and arrange them on the moss, around the spindle center and around the candle cup.
5Cut an 18-inch length of two-inch wide wire-edged ribbon. Tie the ribbon into a 4-inch bow. Apply hot glue to the back of the bow. Attach the bow to the top of the spindle arrangement, under the top edge of the spool. Hold the bow in place until the glue has cooled. Trim the ends of the ribbon. Add the candlestick to finish the holder.
