Ideas on Displaying an Appetizer Table

Ideas on Displaying an Appetizer Table

Appetizers may be helpful in keeping your guests' hunger under control before the main course, or as the staple of an all-appetizer party. When displaying appetizers on a table, you will want to make a visual impact, as well as make things conveniently accessible for you and your guests. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Centerpiece

Place an elegant or visually interesting appetizer in the center of the table to create a centerpiece. Arrange colorful appetizers on a tiered cake stand, or fill a festive bowl with sparkling fake fruit and real pieces. Surround the serving dish with candles, berries or anything that fits the event's theme.

Serving Dishes

Place appetizers and dips in creative serving vessels such as a hollowed out pumpkin, watermelon, loaf of bread or cabbage. Display the appetizers on white plates to put focus on the food. Or, add a bit of festive flair by serving them on colorful dishes. Place doilies on serving dishes to add a touch of elegance. For an eclectic feel, mix and match vintage and contemporary, white and colored dishes.

Serving Table Setup

Place hot appetizers on the end of the table nearest the kitchen or food preparation area. This will make it easier for you to remove and replace food that needs to be heated. Put utensils and plates in a convenient area on or near the table. Position the appetizer table in a place where guests can approach it from all sides. This will eliminate crowding. Consider having smaller appetizer tables scattered in different places throughout the room. This will encourage guests to circulate and not stay in one place.

Variety

Offer a variety of hot and cold foods, as well as a selection of healthy, non-meat foods for those who are watching their weight or who are vegetarians. Fresh fruit and vegetable platters will provide healthy options. Avoid serving too much of one type of appetizer, such as chips and dips or spicy ethnic foods. In addition, think about the flavors of the appetizers you choose. If they are all powerful, they may not be a good mix. Instead, provide a wide selection that will appeal to everyone's tastes without overwhelming them.
