Decorating Ideas for Under Occasional Tables

Decorating Ideas for Under Occasional Tables

Occasional tables are pieces of furniture that may otherwise be referred to as coffee tables, accent tables or cocktail tables. In basic terms, it is a type of table that is used in a family room setting or a living room that comes in a wide variety of sizes, shapes, colors and styles. Some of the tables are designed with a shelf on the bottom; with these styles, there are a few different ways to go about decorating the space. Does this Spark an idea?

Snacks

If you are out of room on the top of your occasional table, consider placing a bowl of fruit on the shelf underneath the occasional table. This not only adds color to the space, but it also invites guests to eat a refreshing piece of fruit. Other types of snacks that you can place under an occasional table include nuts, such as pecans and almonds, mints and other types of candy that you are willing to offer to guests. If you would rather have artificial fruit and vegetables, there are many porcelain pieces that are available at your local retailer.

Greenery

Depending on the size and style of your occasional table, greenery and other colorful plants are an ideal solution for decorating ideas. These pieces add color and a touch of nature to the space without overwhelming the surrounding dcor. Consider adding a Chinese evergreen on the bottom shelf of the occasional table. This type of plant only grows up to 3 feet tall. Other plants that are ideal for this location include the Boston fern, the asparagus fern and the African violet, if you wish to add a bit of color.

Collection

If you are an avid collector of figurines, this is an ideal place to put them on display. Although the most common location to display figurines in a home is on the mantelpiece, under your occasional table is another ideal location that places your collection in front of your guests for easy access. Other types of collections that go well under occasional tables include a coin collection if you are a numismatist, or even a collection of shot glasses if you collect them when you travel.

Magazines/Books

If you love to read and to provide your guests with the latest issues of your favorite magazines, another idea is to neatly place your books and magazines under the occasional tables. If you simply prefer to continue with the theme of a traditional or old-fashioned home, place an antique book collection under the table for dcor purposes only.
