Seating cards at a wedding can organize the reception while also help guests feel welcome. Traditionally, there are two ways to display seating cards: setting them in front of the chairs where each guest is assigned to sit, or featuring them alphabetically with guests' assigned table numbers. Whatever method you choose, the seating card itself is one way to further incorporate your wedding theme and colors.
Small Picture Frames
To add some flare to seating cards, feature the guest's name inside a small picture frame. These displays will stand up on their own in front of the guests' seat or at the seating card table, and will be sure to catch guests' attention. The names, featured on a paper inside the frame, can be written by hand or printed off a computer. Just make sure they fit inside the frame. After the guests use the frame to find their seat, they can take it home at the end of the reception as a wedding favor.
Themed Seating Cards
Most couples set a theme for their wedding--or at least choose a color or combination of colors--that they'll incorporate throughout the event. Keep this theme going with the seating cards by writing the guests' names in fonts similar to those found on your invitations. You can also include on the seating cards some of the designs from your invitation, or incorporate colors that will match the tablecloths and centerpieces.
Novelty Seating Card Holders
Weddings have become a big business for retailers, and many stores now sell unusual or themed holders made specifically for seating cards. The Knot's website features a variety of seating card holders, including some shaped like sea shells, fortune cookies, small trees and even lawn chairs. Think about your wedding and its theme, and choose a seating card holder that will further it. For example, if you're having a circus-themed wedding, you could find a seating card holder that looks like an elephant. (Reference 1)
Seating Card Wall Display
If you're low on space at the reception or simply want to try something different, create wall art to display your guests' seating cards. While each design is different, these setups should be hung in a room where guests can find their name and take off their card before heading toward their table. For this project, you can use one large paper and Velcro each guest's card to it. Dress up the same idea by tying each seating card to a large piece of fabric using ribbon.
