The arrangement of your furniture hinges upon the room's focal point, which often depends upon what the room will be used for. If your living room is used primarily as a family room and television watching is an important activity there, then your flat panel television will likely be the focal point.

Decide how to display your flat panel television. If you plan to display your television in an entertainment center or on a piece of furniture, decide where that piece of furniture will be located in the living room. If you choose to hang your flat panel television on a wall, decide which wall.

Arrange the furniture in your room. If the flat panel television is the focal point, arrange the major seating pieces---sectional sofa, recliners---so that the view of the television is unimpeded.
